This Crumb Cake Recipe Makes an Easy Treat

I love this Crumb Cake Recipe, you want to why?

Well once upon a time, a frustrated cook (no it was not me!) was trying to decorate a beautiful cake for her guests at dinner that night.

The cake just kept coming off in crumbs, ruining all her beautiful icing. The cook decided to give up and create a cake that was supposed to have crumbs!

After much trial and error, she created the first crumb cake recipe. The dense, rich cake was a huge hit with her guests, and they even asked for some at breakfast the next morning.

So, the cake became a lovely thing to serve either for dessert or for a country style breakfast.

Okay, so that may not actually be how the first crumb cake came to be, but chances are that it went a little something like that!

One of the absolute best parts about crumb cake is that you don’t have to decorate it.

Other cakes look naked and pitiful if you don’t ice them, but sometimes you just don’t have the time or patience to deal with icing.

Plus, if you don’t get your cake recipe just exactly right, icing can be impossible as the cake starts flaking away in crumbs, ruining all your efforts to get a smoothly iced top.

Crumb cake is one of the easiest ways to create a beautiful dessert for your friends and family.

It’s also a great way to add a sweet treat to breakfast. One of the best things you can do with crumb cake is to add in fresh or frozen fruit.

Blueberries are always an excellent option, but chopped strawberries or even pineapple would work well, too.

Just remember that you might need to mess with your crumb cake a bit when you start adding in fruits, since they can change the way the cake works.
